SBA Paycheck Protection Program
The recently enacted Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security Act allocated $350 billion to help keep workers employed and on payrolls during the COVID-19 pandemic. Known as the Paycheck Protection Program, the Act provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to small businesses to keep workers on their payroll.
Importantly, these loans may be 100% forgiven if small businesses have met the criteria of keeping their workers on payroll and employed during the COVID-19 pandemic. If all employees are kept on payroll for eight weeks, the Small Business Administration will forgive the portion of the loans used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest & utilities.
Small businesses are eligible for these loans if they were harmed by COVID-19 from February 15, 2020 and June 30, 2020. The program is retroactive to February 15, in order to bring workers who may have been laid off back onto payrolls.
